Our "ins" and "outs" of 2025
Cheers to 2025!
If you’ve done any scrolling this week, you’ve seen the “ins and outs” trend circulating. They are hilariously specific and I could write an “out” list just about everyday. We aim to focus on the “ins” and that’s the energy we’re bringing into 2025- creating more spaces that inspire, getting our hands dirty with new ideas and bringing you all along for the ride!
IN: Mixing eras and styles
Most of the homes we work in are older and mixing styles is the way we design for modern life. Nothing inspires us more than being guided by the existing architecture and adding in unexpected combinations– whether it be a color combo, design style pairing, or mix of old and new.
OUT: Matchy-matchy
A space too matchy can feel trite. Our clients come to us for spaces that feel homey and liveable. There’s an art to mismatching effectively, a muscle we are always flexing.
IN: Custom solutions
This is one of the most important parts of our job. Most of the work we do is custom, whether we’re selecting sofa components, designing built-ins or coming up with innovative tile layouts. In the works for 2025 is a custom banquette for a spatially challenging breakfast nook, another custom hidden door, and some gorgeous stone profiles.
OUT: Fast furniture
No explanation needed! I’ve always regretted it myself when I’ve settled for something just because the cost was lower. We vet our vendors and design our spaces with quality and longevity in mind. Imagine a world in which no furniture gets passed down because it’s sitting in a landfill and then your kids are poor because they just finished college and have to buy more fast furniture and it’s just a vicious cycle!
IN: Statement ceilings
They call them the fifth wall, why not give it a chance to be highlighted? We’ve always loved a wallpapered ceiling and we’re thrilled that our clients are catching on!
OUT: Default white trim
Why is this a thing? Sometimes it makes sense, but mostly it’s a missed opportunity. I invented color drenching when I realized I could dress head to toe in citron, handbag included.
IN: Trusting the process
We’re not in the game of perfection but our goal is always to protect and brace our clients for the many ups and downs of a home project.
