How Do Designers Really Live?

We invited Meg from Heyday Homes over to Sarah’s place for a home tour and creative conversation. Read the full article to learn about her favorite pieces in her space, how to expertly layer new and old, and what make a house feel like home.

“I always incorporate vintage and antique art and decor into my projects as well as my own home. These pieces bring interest, patina and soul to a space, making the space feel loved and lived in.”

Thanks, Meg, for stopping by!

When designing a new space, it's easy to feel like you need to start from scratch, but some of the most unique interiors are created by giving old elements a new life. This might not be the first time you've seen Sarah's green sofa and patterned settee, they've traveled with her from home to home, each time in a new way—by pairing them with different accessories, rearranging them in a fresh layout, or contrasting them with modern pieces. This approach not only saves resources but also adds a layer of personal history to every room.

We do this for our clients too! When a client comes to us with existing furniture, we always start by taking inventory to keep in mind when doing our space planning. Whatever reason they have for holding on to their existing pieces, we find a way to bring a fresh approach by layering it in. Sometimes those pieces get reupholstered, repainted, or simply reimagined. In the end, you get a space that feels brand new.
